Serving Underserved Communities Across Sindh, Pakistan

Who we are

SACH is a locally run non-profit organisation based in Sindh. It was founded by people from these communities, and our teams come from the same districts as the families they serve. We have already carried out humanitarian and community-support work in the underserved rural areas of Tharparkar, Sujawal, Mithi and Badin, as well as in other underdeveloped villages across the province.

Our work rests on three programmes: clean water through hand pumps, free medical camps held inside the villages themselves, and food and ration distribution for families who have no one earning. When the district floods, as it does more often than the rest of the country notices, the ration programme becomes an emergency relief operation.

Our mission

To provide the essentials of a dignified life — safe drinking water, basic healthcare and food security — to the rural households of Sindh that public services do not reach, and to do so transparently enough that every donor can see exactly what their support achieved.

Where we work, and why we go back

Our work is concentrated in the remote rural belt of Sindh — the desert villages of Tharparkar and Mithi, the riverine settlements of Sujawal, the coastal plain around Badin, and other underdeveloped areas across the province. These are places where the groundwater is often saline, where there is no doctor within reach, and where a single failed harvest can empty a household’s kitchen for months.

It would be considerably easier to raise funds by claiming a nationwide presence. We concentrate on Sindh instead, because that is the only way we can go back. A hand pump is not finished on the day it is installed; it is finished if it is still producing sweet water three years later. A family is not helped by a single sack of flour; it is helped if it is self-supporting a year on. Those outcomes can only be verified by teams that keep returning.

How we select projects

Requests reach us through village elders and through communities we have already worked with, and we visit before committing to anything. For a hand pump we assess how far the nearest working sweet-water source is, how many households would use the new one, and whether the ground at the proposed site is likely to yield sweet water at all. For ration support we consult the neighbours and the elders, look at the house itself, and establish whether the family owns land and whether anybody in it is earning.

Assistance is given on the basis of need alone. Religion, caste, biradari and political affiliation play no part in the decision, in either direction.

Our commitment to donors

• Your contribution is used for the purpose you specified, or we return to you before applying it to anything else.
• We photograph completed work and send the images to the donor who funded it.
• Our registration details and office address are published openly, and visitors are welcome.
• We would rather report a smaller verified figure than an impressive one that cannot be checked.
